South Carolina’s creative communities contribute $7.3Billion to South Carolina’s economy and employs 53,261 individuals. (National Endowment for the Arts ‐ 2021 Report). Mt. Pleasant is South Carolina’s fourth largest city with a population of 100,000+ that enjoys higher than average income and education levels.
We Have:
- Active dance organizations
- Two opera companies (HALO and Small Opera)
- Two community choirs (Seaside Singers and Masterworks Choir)
- A community orchestra (Mount Pleasant Symphony Orchestra
- Painters, sculptors, textile artists, sweetgrass basket weavers, and artisans
Yes, we are a community that loves the arts in all their diversity‐and we’re good at it!
We Do Not Have:
- A large, adequate performance space/theater for concerts, plays, or other staged events
- Adequate rehearsal space for performing groups
- A proper museum A centralized community structure for promoting artistic events
In other words, our town lacks an infrastructure that allows the arts to thrive, rather than continually struggle to survive
